Uruk GNU/Linux is a distribution of the GNU operating system, with the Linux-libre kernel.
It comes ready for home and office use, and programs are easy to find and install.
Uruk GNU/Linux is currently based on the Trisquel GNU/Linux core.

  • The Uruk's developers are committed to software freedom. We follow the Free System Distribution Guidelines. These guidelines extend the free software definition to ensure that you can use, study, modify, and share every and each part of this project under free licenses.

Mate Control Center allows you to adjust aspects of your system according to your preference, and the Update Manager assures similar ease-of-use for software updates.

  • Install RPM packages on your system:

    Just type in terminal:
    u-rpmi
    followed by the file you want to install. For example
    u-rpmi file.rpm
  • Install programs from source:

  • with Uruk GNU/Linux building software from source is very easy. Just type in the terminal:
    u-src
    followed by the file you want to build For example:
    u-src src.tar.gz
  • Use any package managers commands

  • Uruk GNU/Linux comes with Package Managers Simulator. This program can simulate popular package managers' commands. This means that you can install, uninstall, update, and remove packages with any package manager you wish.




  • Uruk Docker

    We have a docker image for Uruk GNU/Linux
    you can use it by installing docker, and then typing:
    docker run alimiracle/urukos /bin/bash

    You can help our project in many ways! Here are some:
    Using Uruk GNU/Linux, and sharing it with your friends and family. Reporting issues and bugs that you find. Suggesting improvements. Helping in the forums. Writing and translating documentation and/or applications. Designing. If you have experience, you can develop software for Uruk project or Uruk GNU/Linux.

    As you see, anyone would have the skills to help in some way, but if you lack the time you can still contribute by spreading Uruk GNU/Linux through social networks, publications and free software events.
